Welcome to VI-Access!

This website is under construction and is in a private state. If you're reading this, it is likely we have requested your help to make it better. What follows is a brief description of the website and its purpose:

Accessibility for blind people is a rather obscure topic, with information on various accessibility topics being scattered all over the internet. The goal of the accessibility Wiki is to aggregate this information in one central place. Think of this website as the Wikipedia for accessibility information.

What's Covered here?

We cover the following subjects on this wiki:

  • in the world that one can move to
  • that can be purchased or assembled
  • designed for entertainment or to accomplish a task
  • designed to read text and assist in the use of a computer or other device for visually impaired people
  • solutions that read out text through a screen reader
  • Information on .
  • Anything that facilitates the of people
  • that play a roll or have ideals that affect accessibility, for better or worse
  • , including old screen readers and speech solutions
  • We plan to publish on how to use products and perform other tasks as a visually impaired person
  • Anything else related to accessibility in some way that we haven't thought of a category for yet

Future Plans

Star Rating and Reviews System

We would like to have a star-rating and review system on a majority of our pages. The purpose of this system is not to rate the pages themselves, but rather to rate the products, places, and companies/organizations talked about on the page. For example, if you are reading an article about Wake County, North Carolina, you will want to know what people have to say about it. To that end, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you should see something like this: “

Ratings and Reviews

Wake County has an average rating of 3 stars, and people have left a total of 2 reviews.

This is the best place I’ve visited in my entire life! Amazing sidewalk infrastructure, great bus service, and great taxi services. I love it! Ten out of ten, would visit again!

I hate Raleigh, and I’m never coming back here again. Constant potholes all over every street, transit is always super late or super early, and in general it’s just a miserable cesspit of filth. I’d rather go to an abandoned warehouse and search for a notice on display at the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard’ rather than ever coming back to this county again.

The writer of this section has not walked around the city of Raleigh enough times to understand how it is actually organized. This was merely a scenario to demonstrate how the review system is intended to function in the future.

Video sharing

Some products do not have readily-available sources to reference regarding their accessibility status, making it impossible to verify our claims when writing about them. To solve this problem, we'd like to start an official video sharing presence for VI Access on as many video sharing sites as possible. Our videos are intended to be as professional as possible, and anyone who watches them should be able to use them as complete guides on how to use the products we discuss within them.

Broadening Our Horizons

Currently, this wiki aims to provide information on accessibility for blind and visually impaired people. However, we are considering the possibility of branching out to provide information for people with different disabilities, such as hearing and motor difficulties.
