Clay County, North Carolina

Accommodations
Transportation
There is a transportation service called Clay County Transportation, (CCT). CCT charges $2.00 per trip, though blind people are able to request free rides. They have a first come, first serve system, as well as a demand-response system, which means trips must be scheduled in advance. CCT requires you to book every trip at least 1 business day in advance for in-county trips, and 2 business days in advance for out-of-county trips,[1] though they recommend booking all trips at least 2-3 days in advance to insure you're able to get a driver before they're fully booked.[2] If you are requesting a ride for a medical appointment, they require you to book your ride between 8:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. for local appointments, or between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. for long-distance appointments.[2] CCT only allows you to book out-of-county trips for medical appointments, unless a driver is going out-of-county for someone else already.[3] Due to the potential for illegal activity, CCT also refuses to drive to houses other than the house of the person requesting the ride.[4]
Ride-share Services
Ride-share services are unavailable most of the time given the small size of the county, and are therefore unreliable as a stable form of transport.
Sidewalks
Sidewalks in Clay County are limited to the center square in Hayesville, as well as the 4 main streets surrounding it.[5]
County Documents
Clay County does not make a majority of their documents accessible for the blind.[6] When viewing various PDF files online, they are simply pictures of pre-printed documents. There is no text in most of their files.[7]
